Description
Stonyhurst College of the largest buildings in the North West. This magnificent 16th Century Catholic independent school was captured by Angela Wakefield.
Stonyhurst is one of the foremost public schools in the country. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, was a former pupil, and J. R. R. Tolkien was inspired to write his epic ‘Lord of the Rings’ during his visits to the college.
This is a special painting, based on Angela’s own sketches, photos and frequent visits. She captures the scene beautifully in her unique style, the subject matter bringing a welcome change from her city-based urban landscapes.
